- Read and finish a NEW book of at least 300 pages.
- Upon FINISHING the book, complete a 5-6 slide Power Point Book Trailer to advertise your book. (See Book Trailer Requirements below.)
- You will complete the Power Point presentation on your OWN.
- You may complete the project at home on your computer and save it to a portable memory stick drive or e-mail it to your ELA teacher.
AND/OR
- You may attend tutorials in Mr. Commons’ computer lab in the mornings from 7:50-8:14 to complete your project and save it to a portable memory stick drive or to your school T: drive account.
- As soon as your book trailer is complete, tell your ELA teacher, and sign up to present your book talk to your ELA class or to a reading homeroom class during that same week.
- The LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR BOOK TRAILER IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6.
- No late work will be accepted, so it is IMPORTANT THAT YOU KEEP UP WITH YOUR NIGHTLY READING and PLAN AND PREPARE YOUR BOOK TRAILER THROUGHOUT THE READING OF YOUR BOOK.
Book Trailer Requirements
SLIDE 1
- Student’s Name, Teacher, and Class Period
- Title of the Book and the Author’s Name
- Genre of the Book (Fantasy, Adventure, Romance, Historical Fiction, Non-fiction, etc.)
- Illustration or Slide Background the Reflects the Subject Matter or Theme of the Book

- Characters
- Setting
- Initiating Conflict (that is CENTRAL to the story’s plot and that the main characters set out to solve by the resolution)
- 1-3 Images that Reflect these 3 Elements

SLIDE 3
- 3 Events in the Rising Action (Complications that keep the main characters from solving the problem easily)
- 1-3 Images that Reflect the Rising Action

SLIDE 4
- Close with a question that HINTS at the resolution but does not entirely give it away—invites students to read the book.
- Create a personally reflective Theme Statement that encompasses the REAL LIFE MESSAGE you think the author wants the reader to understand by the time this story has come to a conclusion.

SLIDE 5
- Give your star rating (On a scale of 1-5).
- Explain at least 2 major influences that led your decision for this rating.
- List at least 2 personality types who would enjoy this book.
SLIDE 6
- This slide is for any extra information and graphics that you feel may enhance the audience’s understanding or enjoyment of the book.

HOW TO LEAVE A BOOK REVIEW OR RIFT:
Log on to:
- www.bisd.net
- Choose:
- Campuses: Belton Middle School
- Academics: Library: Go to the catalog.
- Select BMS and go to the catalog tab.
- Sign in with the first 5 letters of your last name, the first 3 letters of your first name and the numbers 000 (like this: florehop000).
***if your last name has less than 5 letters, use a space for each letter that’s less than 5.
***very occasionally, the number at the end of the name sequence will be 001 or 002, if there is another child in the district with the same sign in initials.
- Your bisd student number is your password.
- Locate the title of the book you want to review, click on “details” and then “reviews.” Choose the number of stars it deserves, write the review, proofread, using your best grammar, and print and save it.
- The Review Must Contain These Items:
- One paragraph summary of the book
- One paragraph response to question from your RIFT record that you discussed in detail
- Total of these 2 paragraphs
